After The Mime Order I had to start this one right away。 This series makes me excited to read again。 Sometimes you just want the good guys to win and that's this series。 Shannon makes them struggle along the way。 After The Mime Order I had to start this one right away。 This series makes me excited to read again。 Sometimes you just want the good guys to win and that's this series。 Shannon makes them struggle along the way。 。。。more

Genuinely a very cool series!!! The writing gets better with each book, and it did seem like it would wrap up with this one but the ending leaves room for wayyyyyy more possibilities。 Feel more attached to the characters now and honestly Paige is a bloody legend with the shit she has to put up with jfc

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 More of a 3。5, it e as still good but wasn’t quite as fun or fast paced as The Mime Order, which is incredible。Excited to see what’s up in Scion Paris!

i enjoyed this one! it wrapped up all the loose ends of book 1&2。 the set up for book 4 wasn't too much of a cliffhanger which i appreciate because i am not going to read it until book5 is out。 the characters were just as good as i remember, although i did find paige a touch annoying in some parts。 all these years later i still simp for arcturus。 cant wait to continue with the series。 i enjoyed this one! it wrapped up all the loose ends of book 1&2。 the set up for book 4 wasn't too much of a cliffhanger which i appreciate because i am not going to read it until book5 is out。 the characters were just as good as i remember, although i did find paige a touch annoying in some parts。 all these years later i still simp for arcturus。 cant wait to continue with the series。 。。。more

This book deals with the aftermath of Paige becoming Underqueen and the completion of Sensishield。 It's a quest novel - she leaves London to try and track down the core of the Senishield。 It was interesting see how "unnaturals" are treated outside of London。 There is some relationship building。。。and maybe a little destroying (?)。 It resolves into a large climax back in London with a plot twist I did not see coming。 The story is definitely growing on me from Book 1。 The books don't require so muc This book deals with the aftermath of Paige becoming Underqueen and the completion of Sensishield。 It's a quest novel - she leaves London to try and track down the core of the Senishield。 It was interesting see how "unnaturals" are treated outside of London。 There is some relationship building。。。and maybe a little destroying (?)。 It resolves into a large climax back in London with a plot twist I did not see coming。 The story is definitely growing on me from Book 1。 The books don't require so much work to follow the story/language/world as the first half of the first book did。 Additionally, the relationship between all of the players on the board is becoming clearer with each book。 This likely reflects the maturity and growth of the author as well as the world she's developing。I'm curious enough about what happens next to stick with the series! 。。。more

4。4 stars。 I want to give it a 4。6 but I'm not sure how clear headed I am since I just finished the last page。 I have to say, even if I'm 3 years late, that the author outdid herself in this book。 Absolutely and absolutely。 I believe so because I remember the Paige we started with。 She pissed me off so damn much。 I didn't trust her and her words were almost always empty to me。 I'm quite happy with this book precisely because of how much I can see that Paige has grown。 She is still a pain sometim 4。4 stars。 I want to give it a 4。6 but I'm not sure how clear headed I am since I just finished the last page。 I have to say, even if I'm 3 years late, that the author outdid herself in this book。 Absolutely and absolutely。 I believe so because I remember the Paige we started with。 She pissed me off so damn much。 I didn't trust her and her words were almost always empty to me。 I'm quite happy with this book precisely because of how much I can see that Paige has grown。 She is still a pain sometimes, but now even when she's being a pain, her reasons make me think that she could be making some sort of sense。I was taken by how proud of her I felt while reading many parts of this book。 And even when she was being the (very annoying) Paige I knew, the author had made her humanity so clear on the pages that I understood。 Paige came to life on these pages。 I really believe thay I could meet someone just like her on the street, and for that I have to say well done。It is difficult for many people to write any sort of story but this story seems to me as something that would be particularly difficult to write convincingly。 London as it is here is clear and fleshed out, of course there are holes and I laughed when some became really funny, but still for a revolution to take place there will be holes and some things will not make sense, even in reality, so I thought it wasn't too bad at all。 I kept wanting to know what came next and it was easy to want to do nothing but read this。 I had fun and that was exactly what I was going for when I picked this up。 。。。more

4。5 StarsThe Mime Order is probably one of my favorite books, and the ending of that book had me terrified to read this one。 This book was definitely the "getting us where we needed to be" kind of book, which I was okay with。 It had a lot of world building, and can I say how amazing this world is? This book didn't make me want to die in a good way as the previous one, so it gets knocked down half a star。 It is still a great book with some fab character development and fantastic scenes。 It just didn't grab me as much。Plot: Paige - aka The Pale Dreamer, Black Moth, Underqueen - is here to fuck some shit up and wage war with the Scion and Raphaim。 She is the new Underqueen of the Mime Order and it is a shit show。 Those voyant detecting machines are coming online, and Paige knows they have to destroy their power source。 Paige and her jolly group of friends are following clues, spreading the word of the revolution, and breaking into places to achieve this goal。 So, overall it is a tight plot。 It is clean and executed well。 It is a bit of mystery, but it mainly to give us structure for Paige's development and world building。 This plot was just leading us to the end so we could be properly set up for the next book。 There wasn't the jaw dropping plot twists of the last book, but it was still good。Story: This book revolves a lot around Paige's development。 This woman is 19 and she is leading the voyants in London and has been through so damn much。 Almost nothing goes right in this book。 It is quite literally the book of everything going wrong other than like 3 things, and Paige goes through some very understandable emotional times。 It was great seeing her fluctuate from beaten down to confident to unsure and by the end, the fire of revolution was burning in her。 Oh it was so good。 I think it is also important to mention that I appreciate that shit majorly hit the fan。 Paige fucks up multiple times, people hate her, they run into road blocks。 It adds so much to the story and characters。 We also got a lot of interaction between Paige and her friends, and those were some of the most pure moments。 Bless all of them and their unwavering support of her。 The author also used this book to build the world some more。 It was great going to the different cities to see how other voyants were organized and what the Scion was like elsewhere。 Characters: Since I am no longer reading SJM books, I don't need to kill myself writing the character sections anymore。 Starting with out MC, Paige, I love her。 She is so dynamic and imperfect。 She is capable, but still fucks up。 She owns up to it。 She has normal feelings, and all of this makes her feel so alive。 Some of those speeches she gives are just so damn good。 When we got to see her childhood trauma? I died。 I feel like I should have more to say, but she is very well written, and I love her。 On to Paige's love interest, the Warden/Arcturus。 Okay, Samantha Shannon。 You got me。 I was iffy on this relationship, but I like it。 I alway want more of his character because we don't get to see him very much, and he is such an unknown, but I am hoping that is changing in the next book because of that ending。 I also still think he looks like Sten in Dragon Age: Origins, and I know that is so wrong, but I physically cannot picture this dude。 Everyone else is a side character, but they are definitely worth noting。 Nick and Eliza kill me。 That ending with Nick? I thought about crying? When Paige walked in on Eliza? Priceless。 They are Paige's biggest supporters, and I love them both。 Jaxon isn't majorly in this book, but I have a love/hate relationship with him。 Such a well-written character, but he fucks with my brain。 What do you have under your sleeve, you bastard? Maria gave me the lightness I needed in this book, and F in the chat for Tom。 Writing: Hi, yes, I love her writing。 There were a number of scenes in this book that blew me away。 That first scene with the Rantham in the hideout? She wrote the uneasy in that scene so well。 The speech and seance in the Beneath? Fabulous, and we got to see that power from Paige。 The memory Paige relives with the Warden? So moving, and great foreshadowing。 I could go on with several other scene, but what I am trying to get at is how Samantha Shannon writes these wonderful parts all throughout her books, and they always take my breath away。 Also there was pretty good dialog sections。 A+ writing here。 Overall Thoughts: I really liked this book。 I am excited to read the next book。PS: I am so mad I don't have the beautiful Collector's Cover for this book。 。。。more

It was a solid book but so underwhelming。 Following on from the events of the mime order this book picks up from where the story was left off。 I enjoyed that more of the side characters were explore however I think what let this book down was the lack of POV’s from the other characters。 This would of enriched the story so much more。 As big events were happening outside of paige Mahoney and we only got told about what happened once the characters reunited。 This book definitely had a case of telli It was a solid book but so underwhelming。 Following on from the events of the mime order this book picks up from where the story was left off。 I enjoyed that more of the side characters were explore however I think what let this book down was the lack of POV’s from the other characters。 This would of enriched the story so much more。 As big events were happening outside of paige Mahoney and we only got told about what happened once the characters reunited。 This book definitely had a case of telling and not showing。 For example when nick and Eliza went on their separate mission to help the main plot/mission we were told in one sentence what happened instead of going on that journey with them as readers。 I think multiple POV’s would of added a whole other layer to the story as without it , it fell flat。The last scenes in the book definitely pulled at my heart strings。 I also think the scenes between warden and Paige were executed really well with the atmospheric tension created between them。 Overall the book was okey。 I will continue to read the series and I look forward to seeing what happens next with these characters。 。。。more
